In Queensland’s hot climate, decking boards that get full sun exposure are prone to drying out on the top which results in them cupping. To help minimise this it is recommended to:
1. Limit board width to 80 – 85 mm cover width.
2. Finish with a very pale coloured stain or paint i.e. light grey
3. Provide good sub-deck ventilation, particularly if it close to or on the ground
4. Use the correct fasteners (nails/screws) for the timbers being used – both joists and decking
